Choose this for a first visit focused on the central sights. Check street noise, the actual station entrance and the walk back after an evening out.

Arbat & the surrounding lanes

A good area to consider if you enjoy neighbourhood walks and cafés. Compare Old Arbat with New Arbat carefully; the streets have a different feel.

Business & exhibition stays

Start with the exact meeting or exhibition venue. Compare the complete morning journey rather than choosing a hotel only because it is near Moscow City.

Foreign-issued Visa and Mastercard cards do not work in Russian shops or ATMs, according to current UK FCDO guidance. Online booking and payment acceptance depend on the platform, property and your card. Treat each as a separate check.

  1. Choose a practical base

Check the actual walking route to the nearest metro entrance and the journey to your main sights or exhibition venue.

  2. Read the exact rate conditions

Check prepayment, deposit, cancellation and card-guarantee terms. A “pay at property” label does not by itself confirm that the property can accept your card.

  3. Contact the property directly

Ask how a guest in your situation can pay, whether a working guarantee is required and what happens if a foreign card is declined.

  4. Get written confirmation

Keep the payment agreement, booking reference, address and direct hotel telephone number offline. Confirm late arrival and registration arrangements where relevant.

A MESSAGE TO YOUR HOTEL

Copy. Personalise. Confirm.

Hello! I am planning a stay at your hotel. I have a foreign-issued bank card. Could you confirm the payment methods you can accept from me, whether prepayment or a card guarantee is required, and the cancellation conditions? Please also confirm your arrangements for foreign guest registration. Thank you.

PUT YOUR PLANS INTO PRACTICE

Choose a base that works for your days

A first visit

Compare hotels by the walking route to a station and by the journeys to your chosen sights. A central address may reduce transfers, but the correct entrance and an easy walk matter more than a straight-line distance on a booking map.

An exhibition or business visit

Check the exhibition’s actual venue before choosing a hotel. An event described as Moscow can be outside the central city. Compare the morning route, evening return and access with luggage; leave time between the hotel and the venue entrance.

Before paying a deposit

Ask for a written breakdown of the rate, extras, breakfast, deposit and refund conditions. Verify the payee through the hotel’s established direct contact before paying. Use the property’s confirmed secure process for any required documents.

If your arrival changes

Contact the property through the confirmed booking channel. Ask whether a late arrival affects the reservation, whether reception will be available and how any balance can be settled. Keep that answer with your booking details.
